British Columbia's provincial parks offer a superb network of campgrounds, from oceanfront pitches on Vancouver Island to forested sites in the interior mountains. Most campgrounds provide flush toilets, hot showers, fire pits, and picnic tables, with many offering electrical hook-ups suitable for both campervans and motorhomes. Reservations can be made through the BC Parks system, and sites fill quickly in summer, so booking early is well worthwhile.
British Columbia has no toll roads on its main highway network, so you can travel freely without worrying about toll charges. Speed limits on major highways are typically 110 km/h for cars, but motorhomes and campervans over 5,500 kg are limited to 100 km/h on most routes. Mountain passes such as the Coquihalla (Highway 5) and the Rogers Pass (Highway 1) require winter tyres or chains between October and April. Rest areas are well spaced along major corridors, and fuel stations are frequent in the south but can be 100 km or more apart in northern British Columbia — plan your stops accordingly.
