Spain's coastline stretches over 7,900 kilometres, making it one of Europe's most rewarding countries to explore on four wheels. From the rugged cliffs of the Costa Brava in the northeast to the sun-drenched beaches of Andalusia in the south, the landscape shifts dramatically as you travel. The distance from Barcelona to Seville is roughly 1,000 km, while Madrid to the northern port city of Santander covers about 470 km — both journeys revealing entirely different sides of the country. Along the way, you can visit the Alhambra in Granada, wander the narrow lanes of Ronda perched above its famous gorge, explore the Romanesque churches scattered across Asturias, or follow the pilgrim trail into Santiago de Compostela. Spain's road network is well maintained and connects coastal, mountain, and inland routes with ease, so whether you are driving a compact campervan through Catalonia's winding seaside roads or a larger motorhome across the vast Castilian plateau, the infrastructure supports comfortable touring. Campsites are plentiful in every region, many open year-round, and most offer full hook-ups for self-contained vehicles. Through Yescapa's peer-to-peer platform, you can hire a campervan directly from local owners based across Spain — in cities like Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, and Málaga — giving you a wide choice of vehicles and flexible pick-up points to match your itinerary.
Spain is a fantastic destination for a campervan trip from spring right through to autumn. April and May bring warm temperatures and wildflower-covered hillsides, ideal for touring Andalusia before the busy summer months. The Feria de Abril in Seville, usually held in late April, is a spectacular cultural event worth planning around. Summer is peak season along the Mediterranean coast, so booking your Yescapa hire early is a smart move. September and October offer quieter roads, pleasant weather, and the grape harvest across La Rioja — a wonderful time for a motorhome tour through northern Spain's wine country.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
This 800 km route follows Spain's eastern and southern coast. Start in Barcelona, pass through Valencia and Cartagena, then continue to Málaga and on to Gibraltar. Expect well-serviced campsites and plenty of beachside stops along the way — ideal for a motorhome adventure.
A 220 km loop through Catalonia's dramatic coastline. Drive from Girona to Tossa de Mar and Cadaqués, with winding seaside roads best suited to a campervan. Coastal campsites are well equipped, and fresh seafood awaits in every harbour village.
This 280 km loop winds through Spain's famous pueblos blancos. Begin in Ronda, visit Zahara de la Sierra and Grazalema, then loop back via Arcos de la Frontera. The narrow hill roads favour a compact campervan, and spring wildflowers make the scenery unforgettable.
Covering 450 km along Spain's green northern shore, this route runs from Bilbao through Santander to Gijón and Oviedo. Expect lush valleys, dramatic sea cliffs, and the Picos de Europa mountains nearby. Campsites in Cantabria and Asturias welcome both campervans and motorhomes.
A 400 km drive from Valencia south through Alicante to Almería. This route hugs Spain's southeastern coast, passing the palm groves of Elche and the Cabo de Gata natural park. Well-spaced campsites and warm weather make it a relaxed motorhome journey.
This 650 km circuit starts in Madrid, heads south to Córdoba and Granada, then swings east to the coast at Almería before returning inland. A mix of plains, mountains, and shoreline keeps every day varied — allow 7 to 11 days to enjoy it at a comfortable pace in your campervan.

Spain offers a wide variety of campsites spread from the Mediterranean coast to the mountainous north. Coastal sites along the Costa Brava and Costa Blanca typically feature swimming pools, direct beach access, and full hook-ups for motorhomes. Inland and mountain campsites in regions like Asturias and Almería provide quieter surroundings with pitches suited to campervans of all sizes. Most sites across Spain include electricity connections, modern shower and toilet blocks, and Wi-Fi, making extended stays comfortable.
Spain has an extensive motorway network, with autopistas (toll roads) and autovías (free dual carriageways) connecting major cities. Tolls are common in Catalonia and along parts of the northern coast; you pay at booths by card or cash. The general speed limit on motorways is 120 km/h for cars, but motorhomes over 3,500 kg are limited to 90 km/h on motorways and 80 km/h on secondary roads. Rest areas with services appear regularly along main routes. Larger vehicles should note height and weight restrictions on certain mountain passes, particularly in the Pyrenees and Picos de Europa.
