Calabria offers a good spread of campsites for both campervans and motorhomes, from beachfront pitches along the Tyrrhenian and Ionian coasts to cooler mountain sites in the Sila highlands. Most coastal campsites provide electric hook-ups, showers, toilets, and direct beach access, while inland sites tend to be quieter with generous pitches surrounded by forest. Calabria's main motorway is the A2 (Autostrada del Mediterraneo), running from Salerno south to Reggio Calabria. It is toll-free for its entire length within the region, which is a welcome bonus for motorhome travellers. The general speed limit on motorways for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes is 100 km/h, while on dual carriageways it drops to 80 km/h. Rest areas with fuel, food, and parking are spaced regularly along the A2. Some inland roads through the Sila and Aspromonte mountains are narrower, so take care with larger vehicles on tight bends.
