Flanders is home to one of Europe's densest cycling networks, with over 16,000 km of signposted routes crisscrossing the region — and those same flat, well-maintained roads make it equally rewarding to explore by campervan or motorhome. From the 67-kilometre Belgian coastline stretching between De Panne and Knokke-Heist to the rolling Flemish Ardennes in the south, the landscape shifts just enough to keep every day on the road interesting. Bruges, with its medieval canal network, sits roughly 100 km from Antwerp, the port city known for its diamond quarter and the Royal Museum of Fine Arts. Further east, Leuven's centuries-old university town charm and the battlefields around Ypres offer a mix of culture and history that few regions can match. The distance from Ghent to Hasselt is about 130 km, taking you through the green province of Limburg and its pine forests. Flanders is compact enough to cover comfortably in a week or two, yet packed with variety — art cities, abbey breweries, nature reserves like the Kalmthoutse Heide, and seaside promenades. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners across Flanders, choosing from a wide range of vehicles to suit your group size and travel style. The peer-to-peer model means competitive pricing and personal recommendations from people who know the region best.
May to September is the prime window for a campervan trip through Flanders, when long daylight hours and mild temperatures make outdoor exploring a pleasure. The Gentse Feesten in July transforms Ghent into a ten-day open-air festival of music, theatre, and street food — well worth timing your trip around. In August, the Carpet of Flowers covers Brussels' Grand Place (just south of Flanders, but an easy detour). Shoulder months like April and October bring quieter campsites and lower hire rates, ideal if you prefer a more relaxed pace. Through Yescapa's peer-to-peer platform, you can often find better deals outside peak season, as owners set their own pricing.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
Follow 120 km of Belgium's entire coastline from De Panne to Knokke-Heist over 3–5 days. Stop at Ostend's seafood stalls and the dune reserves near Westende. Flat roads suit any campervan, with beachside campsites dotted along the way.
This 150 km loop over 3–6 days centres on Ypres and its In Flanders Fields Museum, then winds through Poperinge's hop country and Diksmuide's IJzertoren. Quiet rural roads are ideal for motorhomes, with several well-equipped campsites nearby.
Cover 280 km in 5–8 days linking Bruges, Ghent, and Antwerp — three of Flanders' great art cities. Visit the Ghent Altarpiece at St Bavo's Cathedral and Antwerp's MAS museum. Campervan-friendly parking is available near each city centre.
A 350 km route over 5–8 days through Flanders' abbey and craft brewery heartland. Visit Westvleteren's Sint-Sixtus Abbey and the breweries of Mechelen and Leuven. Roads are well-surfaced throughout, with campsites offering full hook-ups for motorhomes.
This 500 km circuit over 7–11 days takes in the coast, the Flemish Ardennes, and Limburg's cycling paradise around Bokrijk. From Bruges to Hasselt, you'll pass through varied landscapes. Plenty of motorhome service points along the route.
A 600 km journey over 10–15 days following the River Scheldt from its estuary near Antwerp through Dendermonde and Oudenaarde into the Flemish Ardennes. Ideal for a campervan at a leisurely pace, with riverside campsites and scenic towpath stops.

Flanders offers a good spread of campsites, from coastal parks with sea views to woodland sites in the Kempen region. Most are well set up for both campervans and motorhomes, with electric hook-ups, service points for waste disposal, and modern shower and toilet blocks. Whether you're after a beachside pitch near the North Sea or a quieter spot in the Limburg countryside, Flanders has options across every province to suit your trip.
Flanders has an extensive motorway network, and the good news is that all highways in Belgium are toll-free for standard vehicles, including campervans and motorhomes. The E40, E17, and E19 are the main arteries connecting Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp, and Brussels. Speed limits for motorhomes under 3.5 tonnes match those for cars: 120 km/h on motorways and 70 km/h outside built-up areas. Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes are limited to 90 km/h on motorways. Rest areas with parking suitable for larger vehicles are well spaced along major routes, though signage is in Dutch throughout Flanders.
