Friesland offers a fine spread of campsites, from lakeside pitches in the south to coastal spots near the Wadden Sea. Most sites cater to both campervans and motorhomes, with electric hook-ups, fresh water, waste disposal and modern sanitary blocks as standard. Many are family-run and set in quiet, green surroundings — ideal for unwinding after a day on the road. Booking ahead is recommended during July and August, particularly around the Frisian Lakes.
Friesland's road network is straightforward and well-suited to motorhome travel. The A7 and A32 motorways connect the province to the rest of the Netherlands, and there are no toll roads anywhere in the country. The national speed limit on motorways is 100 km/h during the day (06:00–19:00) and 120 or 130 km/h at night, though vehicles over 3,500 kg are limited to 80 km/h on all roads outside built-up areas. Provincial roads in Friesland are flat and wide enough for larger vehicles, but watch for narrow dyke roads along the coast where passing can be tight. Rest areas with motorhome service points are well signposted along major routes.
