Limburg is the southernmost province of the Netherlands, where the landscape shifts from flat polders to rolling hills — the Vaalserberg, at 322 metres, marks the country's highest point and sits where the Dutch, Belgian and German borders meet. From Maastricht to Venlo is roughly 80 km, while the drive from Roermond to Valkenburg covers about 45 km, making the province wonderfully compact for touring. The Heuvelland region offers winding roads through orchards and vineyards, and the fortified town of Valkenburg is home to the famous Gemeentegrot, a network of underground marlstone passages dating back centuries. Along the River Maas, the historic centre of Thorn — known as the White Village — contrasts with the modern designer outlet scene in Roermond. Maastricht itself draws visitors to the Vrijthof square, the Basilica of Saint Servatius and the Bonnefantenmuseum. For campervan travellers, the province's quiet country lanes and well-signposted cycling routes make it easy to explore at your own pace, while motorhome-friendly aires and campsites are spread right across the region. Through Yescapa's peer-to-peer platform you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners in Limburg, choosing from a wide range of vehicle types to suit your trip — whether that is a compact van for two or a fully equipped family motorhome.
Limburg is at its liveliest from late spring through autumn. Carnival in Maastricht, held each February, is one of the biggest celebrations in the Netherlands and well worth timing your trip around. From May onward, campsites across Limburg open fully and the Heuvelland hills are ideal for touring by campervan. Summer brings events like the Preuvenemint food festival in Maastricht each August. Booking through Yescapa during the shoulder months of May or September often means better availability and more competitive hire prices from local owners, while still enjoying pleasant conditions for a motorhome trip through the province.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.

Limburg offers a good spread of campsites, from wooded sites in the Heuvelland hills to lakeside parks near Roermond. Most sites provide electric hook-ups, fresh water points, waste disposal and modern shower blocks, catering to both campervans and motorhomes. Many Limburg campsites also feature swimming pools, playgrounds and on-site restaurants, making them ideal for families or longer stays.
Limburg's main motorways — the A2 running north–south and the A76 connecting east–west — are toll-free, as are all Dutch motorways. The general speed limit on motorways is 100 km/h during the day (06:00–19:00) and 130 km/h at night, though motorhomes over 3,500 kg are limited to 90 km/h on motorways and 80 km/h on regional roads. Signage is clear and rest areas with facilities appear regularly. Some roads in the Heuvelland area are narrower and hillier than elsewhere in the Netherlands, so take extra care with larger vehicles on bends.
