Montana offers a wide range of campsites, from forested mountain pitches near Glacier National Park to open prairie sites along the Missouri River. Many campgrounds provide full hook-ups for motorhomes, including electric, water, and waste disposal, while simpler sites in national forests welcome campervans with basic facilities. You will find options spread right across the state, whether you are heading west into the Rockies or exploring the eastern plains.
Montana has no toll roads, so you can travel freely across the state without worrying about fees. Interstate highways such as I-90 and I-15 are the main arteries, both well-suited to motorhomes and campervans. The general speed limit on interstates is 80 mph (around 130 km/h) for cars, but larger vehicles over 8,000 kg may be subject to lower posted limits on certain stretches. Mountain passes like those on US-93 and Going-to-the-Sun Road have vehicle length restrictions — vehicles over 6.4 metres (21 feet) are not permitted on Going-to-the-Sun Road. Rest areas with overnight parking are spaced regularly along major routes.
