Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Navarre

Navarre — a region worth exploring

Navarra is home to the historic Camino de Santiago route, with the Roncesvalles pass serving as one of the most famous entry points into Spain for pilgrims crossing the Pyrenees. The region stretches from the snow-dusted peaks of the Pyrenean foothills in the north to the semi-arid Bardenas Reales Natural Park in the south, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve shaped by wind and water into dramatic clay formations. From Pamplona, the regional capital famed for the San Fermín festival, it is roughly 60 km north to the beech and fir forests of the Irati Forest, one of the largest in Europe. Head 90 km south from Pamplona and you reach the otherworldly landscapes of Bardenas Reales, where desert-like plateaus contrast sharply with the lush green valleys further north. Along the way, the medieval town of Olite and its restored Royal Palace offer a glimpse into Navarra's rich past, while the Nacedero del Urederra, a series of turquoise pools fed by natural springs, rewards those willing to explore on foot. The variety of terrain makes Navarra ideal for a campervan or motorhome trip, with quiet mountain roads in the north and open plains in the south. Through Yescapa, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners across the region, giving you the flexibility to plan your own route and discover Navarra at your own pace.

Best time to visit

The best time to hire a campervan in Navarra runs from May to October, when warm days and long evenings make exploring the Pyrenean valleys and southern plains a real pleasure. July brings the world-famous San Fermín festival in Pamplona, so book well ahead if you want to experience the atmosphere. Autumn is equally rewarding — the Irati Forest turns golden through October and November, and campsites across Navarra are quieter, giving you more freedom to choose your pitch. With Yescapa's peer-to-peer model, you can often find competitive motorhome hire rates outside peak summer, making spring and autumn excellent value for a Navarra road trip.

Navarra's main motorway, the AP-15, runs north–south from Pamplona towards Tudela and is a toll road — payment is made at toll booths by card or cash. Motorhomes over 3,500 kg are classed as heavy vehicles and pay a higher toll rate. Speed limits for motorhomes and campervans above 3,500 kg are 90 km/h on motorways and 80 km/h on secondary roads. The N-121-A connects Pamplona to the French border and is toll-free, winding through the Baztan Valley with some narrow stretches worth noting for larger vehicles.
