Tennessee stretches roughly 710 km from the Appalachian peaks along its eastern border to the Mississippi River bluffs in the west, making it one of the most geographically varied states you can explore by road. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the most visited national park in the United States, anchors the east with over 1,300 km of trails and scenic drives. Head west and you will reach Nashville, the state capital and home of the Grand Ole Opry, about 340 km from Gatlinburg. Continue another 340 km and you arrive in Memphis, where Beale Street and the Stax Museum of American Soul Music tell the story of blues and rock 'n' roll. Between these landmarks, the Natchez Trace Parkway offers a peaceful, commercial-vehicle-free corridor that is ideal for campervan touring. Tennessee's roads wind through river valleys, rolling farmland, and forested ridges, giving you constantly changing scenery without extreme altitude challenges. Whether you fancy a compact campervan for mountain roads or a larger motorhome for family comfort, Yescapa connects you directly with local owners across the state, so you can hire a vehicle that suits your route and group size. With pick-up options spread from Knoxville to Memphis, planning a Tennessee road trip is straightforward and flexible.
Tennessee is wonderful to visit from spring right through to autumn. April and May bring wildflower blooms across the Great Smoky Mountains, while the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in June draws music lovers to Manchester. Autumn, particularly October, is prime time for leaf-peeping along the Cherohala Skyway and Foothills Parkway. Summer is the busiest season, so booking your campervan or motorhome on Yescapa well ahead lets you lock in competitive peer-to-peer rates. Campsite pitches in the national park fill quickly from June to August, but Tennessee's state parks offer excellent alternatives with full hook-ups year-round.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.

Tennessee offers a broad range of campsites, from mountain pitches in the Great Smoky Mountains to lakeside spots in the central highlands and riverside parks near Memphis. Most state park campgrounds provide electric and water hook-ups suitable for both campervans and motorhomes, along with shower blocks, toilets, and dump stations. Whether you prefer a wooded, secluded pitch or a full-service resort with Wi-Fi, Tennessee has you covered.
Tennessee has no toll roads on its main interstate network, so you can travel freely without worrying about toll booths or transponders. The speed limit on interstate highways is generally 105 km/h (65 mph), though some rural stretches allow 113 km/h (70 mph). If your motorhome or campervan exceeds a certain length or weight, keep to the right-hand lane on multi-lane roads. The Natchez Trace Parkway prohibits commercial traffic, creating a relaxed route for leisure vehicles. Rest areas along I-40 and I-24 are well maintained and offer overnight parking options in some locations.
