Wallonia is home to the Grottes de Han, one of Europe's most remarkable cave networks, where an underground river has carved passages through limestone over millions of years. The region stretches across southern Belgium, from the rolling farmland of Hainaut in the west to the forested highlands of the Ardennes in the east. Namur, the regional capital, sits at the confluence of the Sambre and Meuse rivers, roughly 65 km south of Brussels. From Namur, it is about 130 km southeast to the spa town of Malmedy, near the German border, passing through landscapes that shift from gentle river valleys to dense woodland. Wallonia rewards slow travel — its network of smaller roads connects historic towns like Dinant, with its clifftop citadel, and Durbuy, often called the smallest city in the world. The Barrage de la Gileppe, an impressive 19th-century dam crowned by a stone lion, and the Abbaye de Villers-la-Ville, a sprawling Cistercian ruin, are well worth a detour. Roads through the Ardennes include winding stretches and elevation changes, so a campervan offers flexibility to stop wherever the scenery calls. For a motorhome trip, the region's well-maintained aires and campsites make planning straightforward. Through Yescapa, you can hire directly from local owners across Wallonia, choosing from a wide range of vehicles to match your group size and travel style.
May to October is ideal for a campervan trip through Wallonia. The Ducasse de Mons, a UNESCO-listed festival, takes place on Trinity Sunday in June, filling the city with processions and the famous Lumeçon battle. In December, the Marché de Noël de Liège transforms the city centre into one of Belgium's largest Christmas markets. Summer is the busiest period, so booking your hire early through Yescapa gives you the best choice of vehicles from local owners — and peer-to-peer pricing often works out more affordable than traditional hire. Spring and autumn bring quieter roads and colourful forests across the Ardennes, perfect for a motorhome escape at your own pace.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
Follow the Meuse for 120 km from Namur to Dinant and on to Hastière. Stop at the Citadelle de Dinant and the Abbaye de Maredsous for local cheese. Riverside campsites welcome campervans, with easy parking throughout.

Wallonia offers a good spread of campsites, from riverside pitches in the Meuse valley to woodland sites deep in the Ardennes. Most sites provide electric hook-ups, water points, and waste disposal for both campervans and motorhomes. Many also feature shower blocks, laundry facilities, and small on-site shops. Whether you prefer a quiet spot beside a stream or a larger site with a swimming pool, Wallonia has options across the region to suit every style of trip.
Wallonia's motorways (autoroutes) are toll-free, making them budget-friendly for motorhome and campervan travel. The E411 connects Brussels to Luxembourg via Namur, while the E42 runs east–west from Mons to Liège. Speed limits for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes are generally 90 km/h on motorways and 60 km/h in built-up areas — always check signage as local limits can vary. Rest areas with parking suitable for larger vehicles are spaced regularly along major routes. In the Ardennes, secondary roads can be narrower with steeper gradients, so plan your route if you are driving a larger motorhome.
