Bristol's Clifton Suspension Bridge has spanned 214 metres across the Avon Gorge since 1864, making it one of the most recognisable landmarks in the south-west of England. The city itself is a lively port destination where maritime heritage meets contemporary culture. You can wander the colourful houses of Clifton Village, explore the interactive exhibits at We The Curious science centre, or step aboard the SS Great Britain — Brunel's ground-breaking iron steamship, now permanently docked in the city's historic harbour. Street art is woven into Bristol's identity, with large-scale murals by Banksy and other artists decorating walls across Stokes Croft and Bedminster. For green space, the Ashton Court Estate offers over 340 hectares of parkland on the western edge of the city. Bath is just 19 km to the east, ideal for a day trip to the Roman Baths and Royal Crescent, while the Cheddar Gorge sits roughly 50 km to the south, carving through the Mendip Hills. Bristol's roads fan out towards the M4 and M5 motorways, giving you easy access to Wales, Devon, and the Cotswolds. Hiring a campervan or motorhome through Yescapa connects you directly with local owners across the Bristol area, so you can pick up a vehicle that suits your group and set off with the flexibility to explore at your own pace. A campervan hire from Bristol puts the entire south-west within comfortable reach.
Bristol comes alive in summer, when the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta lights up Ashton Court each August with mass ascents and night glows. The Bristol Harbour Festival in July fills the waterfront with live music, boat displays, and street food. These months are the busiest for campervan travel, so booking your hire on Yescapa early lets you lock in competitive peer-to-peer prices from local owners. Spring and autumn bring quieter roads and more availability at nearby campsites, making them great for a relaxed motorhome trip through the Mendips or along the Severn Estuary.
Bristol is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Head 210 km west from Bristol across the Severn Bridge into Wales. Spend time at Tenby's harbour and the cathedral city of St Davids, Britain's smallest city. Pembrokeshire's coastal campsites welcome campervans, and the coast road offers dramatic clifftop views throughout the journey.
Drive 280 km south-west from Bristol to reach Cornwall's Atlantic coast. Stop at Padstow for fresh seafood and visit the Eden Project near St Austell. Motorhome-friendly campsites are plentiful, though booking ahead in summer is wise. Allow 5–8 days to explore at a relaxed pace.
Just 19 km east of Bristol, Bath is perfect for a short campervan trip. Visit the Roman Baths, stroll the Royal Crescent, and browse independent shops along Pulteney Bridge. Park at Bath Marina & Caravan Park for easy access to the city centre on foot.
Travel 50 km south from Bristol into the Mendip Hills to reach Cheddar Gorge. Explore the show caves, walk the gorge-top cliff trail, and sample local cheddar cheese. Campervan parking is available at the gorge entrance, and nearby Petruth Paddocks offers overnight pitches.
Head 120 km south-west from Bristol to Exmoor, where open moorland meets wooded valleys. Visit the harbour village of Lynmouth and spot wild ponies on Dunkery Beacon. Several campsites in Porlock and Dulverton cater for motorhomes with electric hook-ups and waste disposal.
Drive 140 km north from Bristol into the rolling Cotswolds. Wander honey-stone villages like Castle Combe and Bourton-on-the-Water. Lanes can be narrow, so a compact campervan works best here. Allow 3–6 days to enjoy farm shops, country pubs, and gentle walking trails.

Bristol and its surrounding countryside offer a good mix of urban and rural campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. In the city itself, you will find a centrally located site with electric hook-ups and modern facilities. Further out, the Mendip Hills and North Somerset provide peaceful pitches with showers, waste disposal points, and spacious hardstanding areas for larger vehicles.
Bristol operates a network of Park & Ride sites on the outskirts, several of which can accommodate larger vehicles such as campervans and motorhomes. Overnight parking in the city centre is generally not permitted for leisure vehicles, so plan to use dedicated sites. Always check height barriers before entering multi-storey car parks, as most have a 2-metre limit.

Fabio was a really great guest and left the camper van in perfect condition. He enjoyed His adventure exploring Ireland and we were delighted he hired one of our campervans.
We had an excellent experience renting our campervan from Laura. Everything was exactly as described, the van was well equipped and reliable, and we had no issues at all throughout our trip. It was a fantastic way to explore Southern France, giving us the freedom to visit beautiful towns, beaches and countryside at our own pace. Laura was great to deal with from start to finish and made the whole process simple and stress free. Highly recommended! 😊 Oisín & Ellen (Ireland)
