Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Ibiza

Ibiza — a region worth exploring

Ibiza stretches just 40 kilometres from north to south, yet packs over 80 beaches into its 572 square kilometres — making it one of the most beach-dense islands in the Mediterranean. Beyond the famous nightlife of Ibiza Town, the island holds a UNESCO World Heritage Site at Dalt Vila, a walled fortress dating back to the 16th century that offers panoramic views across the harbour. The rural interior, known locally as the "camp," is dotted with traditional fincas, almond groves, and red-earth trails ideal for slow exploration. From Sant Antoni de Portmany on the west coast to Santa Eulària des Riu in the east, the drive is roughly 25 kilometres — a short hop that lets you experience two entirely different sides of the island in a single morning. The southern tip at Ses Salines Natural Park connects Ibiza to Formentera by ferry, opening up a two-island adventure. Coastal roads wind past coves like Cala Comte and Cala d'Hort, where the rocky islet of Es Vedrà rises dramatically from the sea. A campervan is the perfect way to navigate these narrow lanes at your own pace, while a motorhome gives families extra space for longer stays. With Yescapa, you can hire directly from local owners across the island, choosing from a range of vehicles that suit your group size and travel style. Whether you prefer a compact campervan for cliff-top parking or a fully equipped motorhome for a fortnight's touring, the peer-to-peer model keeps things flexible and personal.

Best time to visit

May to October is the prime window for exploring Ibiza by campervan, with warm temperatures and long daylight hours. June is ideal if you want to catch the Ibiza Medieval Festival in Dalt Vila, when the old town fills with markets, music, and costumed parades. September and October bring quieter roads and comfortable weather — perfect for unhurried coastal drives. Book early for July and August, the island's most popular months. Through Yescapa's peer-to-peer platform, you can often find competitive hire rates outside peak season, as local owners set their own pricing. Spring arrivals in April enjoy wildflower-covered hillsides and uncrowded campsites across Ibiza.

The best road trips in Ibiza

To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.

The Full Island Circuit

90 km 5–8 days

This 90 km loop circles Ibiza's coastline, linking Ibiza Town, Sant Antoni de Portmany, Sant Joan de Labritja, and Santa Eulària des Riu. Allow 5–8 days to explore beaches, markets, and hilltop villages. A campervan handles the narrow northern roads with ease.

The Southern Salt Flats and Beaches Route

40 km 3–5 days

Cover 40 km from Ibiza Town south through Ses Salines Natural Park to Platja d'en Bossa and Cala Jondal. Over 3–5 days, visit the ancient salt flats and swim at sheltered coves. Ideal for a compact campervan with easy parking near the coast.

The Cultural Heartland Route

70 km 5–7 days

This 70 km route winds through Ibiza's rural interior, passing Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera, Sant Miquel de Balansat, and the hilltop church of Puig de Missa. Spend 5–7 days discovering artisan workshops and traditional fincas. Motorhomes fit well on the wider inland roads.

Ibiza and Formentera — Two Islands, One Trip

110 km 7–11 days

Combine 110 km of driving across both Ibiza and Formentera over 7–11 days. Take the ferry from Ibiza Town to La Savina, then explore Formentera's Platja de Ses Illetes and Es Caló. A campervan is the best choice for the smaller island's compact roads.

The West Coast Coves Route

60 km 3–5 days

Follow 60 km of Ibiza's western shoreline from Sant Antoni de Portmany to Cala Comte and Cala Tarida. Over 3–5 days, catch legendary sunsets and dine at beachside chiringuitos. Campsites near Sant Josep de sa Talaia offer hook-ups for motorhomes.

The Northern Discovery Trail

50 km 3–6 days

This 50 km route explores Ibiza's quieter north, from Sant Joan de Labritja to Portinatx and Cala de Sant Vicent. Spend 3–6 days hiking coastal paths and visiting the hippie market at Las Dalias. Narrow lanes suit a campervan over a larger motorhome.

What you need to know about roads and motorways in Ibiza

Ibiza has no motorway toll system — all roads on the island are free to use. The main routes are the E-10 connecting Ibiza Town to Sant Antoni de Portmany and the E-20 running north to Sant Joan de Labritja. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are generally 80 km/h on main roads and 40–50 km/h in built-up areas. Many coastal and rural roads are narrow and winding, so a campervan can be easier to manoeuvre than a larger vehicle. Fuel stations are found in all main towns, though they are scarcer in the north. Plan refuelling stops accordingly.

We had an excellent experience renting our campervan from Laura. Everything was exactly as described, the van was well equipped and reliable, and we had no issues at all throughout our trip. It was a fantastic way to explore Southern France, giving us the freedom to visit beautiful towns, beaches and countryside at our own pace. Laura was great to deal with from start to finish and made the whole process simple and stress free. Highly recommended! 😊 Oisín & Ellen (Ireland)
