The campervan is the ultimate all-rounder. Effortlessly practical and built for freedom, it’s just as at home navigating tight city streets as it is exploring the heart of the countryside.
Paris is home to the Eiffel Tower, which was originally intended as a temporary structure for the 1889 World's Fair and stood as the world's tallest building for 41 years. Today, the city draws millions of visitors to landmarks such as the Musée du Louvre, the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris, the Sacré-Cœur Basilica, and the Musée d'Orsay. Beyond the city centre, the Château de Versailles lies just 22 km to the south-west, while the cathedral city of Chartres is roughly 90 km to the south-west, making both ideal day trips by campervan. Paris sits on the Seine, and the surrounding Île-de-France region offers a mix of forests, river valleys, and open countryside that suits motorhome touring well — though navigating the inner arrondissements in a larger vehicle requires some planning. Peripheral roads such as the Boulevard Périphérique and the A86 motorway make it straightforward to skirt the city and head out to greener routes. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from a local owner in the Paris area, which often means flexible pick-up points in residential neighbourhoods rather than a single depot. This peer-to-peer approach keeps costs reasonable and gives you a personal introduction to the vehicle before you set off on your adventure.
Paris is wonderful to explore from spring through to autumn. The Fête de la Musique on 21 June fills every quarter with live performances, while the Tour de France finale on the Champs-Élysées in late July is a spectacle worth timing your trip around. Summer is the busiest period, so booking your campervan on Yescapa a few weeks ahead helps you secure the best choice from local owners. Campsites near Paris tend to be quieter in May and September, giving you more space and a relaxed pace. Autumn colours along the Seine valley make for memorable drives in a motorhome.
Paris is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Head 60 km north from Paris to the elegant town of Chantilly. Visit the Château de Chantilly and its remarkable art collection, then stroll through the Great Stables. The Forêt de Chantilly offers peaceful walks. Campervan parking is available near the racecourse, and the route via the A1 is smooth and well-signposted.
Just 22 km south-west of Paris, Versailles is an easy first stop. Explore the Château de Versailles and the Grand Trianon, then wander the gardens. Motorhome parking is available at Place d'Armes car park near the palace. Allow time to visit the Hameau de la Reine before heading back or continuing west.
Drive 130 km north-west from Paris to Rouen, the historic capital of Normandy. Stop at the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Rouen, famously painted by Monet, and the Gros-Horloge clock tower. Break the journey in Giverny to see Monet's house and gardens. Campervan-friendly aires are dotted along the Seine valley route.
Travel 190 km east from Paris to Reims, the heart of the Champagne region. Tour the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Reims and visit Maison Taittinger's chalk cellars. Stop in Épernay along the Avenue de Champagne for tastings. Several motorhome aires near Reims offer full hook-ups and make a comfortable base for exploring.
Set off 290 km south-west from Paris into the Loire Valley. Visit the Château de Chambord and the Château de Chenonceau, two of France's most celebrated landmarks. The riverside roads are wide and campervan-friendly. Municipal campsites in Blois and Amboise offer affordable pitches with electric hook-ups.
Cover 350 km north-west from Paris to the Normandy coast. Pay your respects at the D-Day beaches of Omaha and Utah, then explore the Bayeux Tapestry museum. Campsites in and around Paris cater well to both campervan and motorhome travellers. Most are located in the surrounding Île-de-France countryside, offering a quieter retreat after a day in the city. Expect facilities such as electric hook-ups, modern shower blocks, Wi-Fi, and dedicated pitches for larger vehicles. Several sites sit close to RER train stations, giving you easy access to central Paris without the hassle of driving in.
Parking a motorhome or campervan in central Paris is restricted, so the best approach is to use Park and Ride (Parc Relais) facilities on the outskirts and take public transport into the city. Height barriers in many underground car parks rule out larger vehicles. Overnight parking on public streets in a campervan is generally tolerated outside the city centre, but always check local signage. The facilities below accept larger vehicles and connect to the Métro or tram network.

Fabio was a really great guest and left the camper van in perfect condition. He enjoyed His adventure exploring Ireland and we were delighted he hired one of our campervans.
We had an excellent experience renting our campervan from Laura. Everything was exactly as described, the van was well equipped and reliable, and we had no issues at all throughout our trip. It was a fantastic way to explore Southern France, giving us the freedom to visit beautiful towns, beaches and countryside at our own pace. Laura was great to deal with from start to finish and made the whole process simple and stress free. Highly recommended! 😊 Oisín & Ellen (Ireland)
